Manitoba Moose News Release

Today the Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation is proud to announce the donation of $177,544 to 19 local children's charities. As a result, the Yearling Foundation is thrilled to announce they have now disbursed over $2 million to a variety of children's charities since its creation in 1996.

The Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation is the charitable arm of the Manitoba Moose Hockey Club. As a non-profit organization, it raises money year round to support a variety of registered children's charities in Manitoba. The funds were raised through Yearling Foundation events such as the Flatlander's Beer Festival, Yearling Foundation Gala Dinner, Ranger Insurance Charity Golf Classic, Silent Auctions and 50/50 raffle draws at all Manitoba Moose home games.

"To reach the $2 million mark in monies donated to charities is a tremendous accomplishment for the Yearling Foundation," stated Executive Director Kelly McArthur. "But it isn't possible without the generosity of those who come out and support our fund-raising activities like the Gala Dinner as well as the sponsors and volunteers who get behind all of our events. They should know they are the reason we are able to make so many children around the province smile just a little bit more."

Once again, one of the high moments last season was the second annual Yearling Foundation Gala Dinner, which was held again at ice level of the MTS Centre on February 14, 2008. The dinner attracted over 600 guests who were entertained by Canadian music legend Colin James. The Yearling Foundation was proud to highlight all their 2007-08 Recipient Charities at this event, which raised over $28,000 that evening alone.

The Yearling Foundation operates under the direction of Executive Director, Kelly McArthur, in partnership with a volunteer Board of Directors headed by Chairperson George Sigurdson, and board members Kevin Neiles, Blake Fitzpatrick, Mark Strople, Robert Thorsten, Brian Lerner, Laurie Finley, Norva Riddell, Rod Woodcock, Deb Kocen, and John Olfert.
