Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced they will participate in a pre-season tournament along with the Hamilton Bulldogs (the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) and the Toronto Marlies (the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) from October 2nd to October 5th at the Mile One Centre in St. John's, NF.

"We are very pleased to be returning to St. John's, NF, which was once a cornerstone of the American Hockey League for years," said Craig Heisinger, Senior Vice-President & General Manager, Manitoba Moose. "The Bulldogs and Marlies have long been cooperative partners in the past in terms of playing pre-season games, so we felt it was a perfect opportunity to once again participate in some AHL-calibre competition, as well as return to a strong hockey community."

The four-game round robin tournament will feature the AHL's three Canadian-based franchises. It will commence on Thursday, October 2nd with a contest between the Manitoba Moose and the Toronto Marlies. The tournament's second game will take place on Friday, October 3rd when the Hamilton Bulldogs will battle the Toronto Marlies. The third and final game of the round robin is set for Saturday, October 4th when the Hamilton Bulldogs will meet the Manitoba Moose. Following the round robin, the top two teams will advance to the tournament's championship game, which is scheduled for Sunday, October 5th.

The Moose have faced both the Bulldogs and the Marlies in past AHL pre-season action. Last season, the Moose and Marlies split a pair of games in September, 2007 with the Marlies beating the Moose 5-3 in Fort Frances, ON while the Moose responded with a 3-2 overtime victory the next night in Dryden, ON. The Moose swept a pair of games against the Bulldogs in Dryden and Fort Frances back in October, 2004.

The remaining schedule for Manitoba Moose training camp will be released at a later date.
