June 20, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON, Texas - The 2008 NHL Entry Draft starts today in Ottawa with the first round being nationally televised on Versus starting at 5 p.m. CDT. The Tampa Bay Lightning have the first pick in the draft and will most likely select Steven Stamkos, but the rest is up in the air. The Aeros' National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the Minnesota Wild, have the 24th pick in the first round tonight and rounds 2-7 will take place Saturday in Ottawa.
The Wild have three more picks in the draft (Nos. 55, 115, 145) and the four picks are the fewest in team history. Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough and Assistant General Manager/Player Personnel Tom Thompson believe there is plenty of talent to grab in the 2008 draft.
