The Manitoba Moose are pleased to announce today defenceman Nolan Baumgartner has once again been named captain of the team. This is actually the second time in his career that Baumgartner will serve as team captain since he also wore the "C" during the 2004-05 season.
Marco Rosa and Joel Perrault were named assistant captains.
Baumgartner, 34, has played in four games so far this season with the Moose collecting an assist Oct. 9 @ Rockford. In his career, the Calgary, AB native has now appeared in 323 games with Manitoba during all or parts of seven seasons. In that time, he's scored 157 points (37g, 120a) and 322 penalty minutes. He has also played in 40 Calder Cup playoff games with the Moose where he's collected 10 assists and 40 penalty minutes. He has been named the team's top defenceman twice (2003, 2005) and in 2009, he was named the team's most popular player by the fans and was the winner of the team's Julian Klymkiw Community Service Award. As a member of the Moose, he's been selected to two AHL All-Star Classics (2004 & 2010) and was named the Playing Captain for the Canadian All-Stars for last year's game in Portland.
In his 15-year career, Baumgartner has now played in 756 career games in the American Hockey League since 1996 where he's collected 77 goals and 263 assists for 340 points and 754 penalty minutes with Iowa, the Philadelphia Phantoms, Manitoba, Norfolk, and Portland. Baumgartner has also played in 143 career NHL games with Dallas, the Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Washington. In that time, he's scored seven goals and 40 assists for 47 points and 69 penalty minutes. His most productive season was in 2005-06 when he played in 70 games with the Canucks and scored five goals and 29 assists for 34 points and 30 penalty minutes.
Baumgartner was originally drafted in the first round, 10th overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
