Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, surrendered a late three-run lead in a ten-inning loss to the Montgomery Biscuits on Thursday, falling 7-6 at The Ballpark at Jackson. The defeat means Jackson (64-58) will drop the 2018 regular season series against Montgomery (69-54), having won only 7 of 18 meetings to date with only two more faceoffs remaining.
Generals starter Justin Donatella made it through six innings for the first time in three starts, allowing a run to Montgomery in the top of the first and two more in the top of the fourth. Donatella threw his 89th and final pitch with the Generals trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, but Kirby Bellow came on in relief for the seventh after the Generals rallied for a 6-3 lead. Bellow surrendered a pair of runs in an inning of work against Montgomery, though the Generals remained on top by a run into the eighth inning. The advantage disappeared quickly, as the Biscuits' Nick Solak led off the eighth inning with a homer against Generals right-hander Bud Jeter.
With the game tied 6-6, Jackson closer Yoan Lopez (2-6, 3.29 ERA) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for Jackson, but the tenth inning proved harder. Lopez allowed an unearned run on an RBI single by Nathan Lukes, which proved to be the game-winning run. The Generals fell to 6-6 in extra innings contests and 46-7 when leading after six innings.
The breakout inning came in the sixth for the Generals, with all four runs in the frame scoring after two men were out. Trailing 3-2 at the time, a walk by Josh Prince and a single from Jay Gonzalez set the table for a two-run double by Dominic Miroglio, sending Jackson in front 4-3. With Miroglio at second base, Jose Vinicio stepped up and golfed a two-run shot over the left field wall for his third dinger of the year, making the lead 6-3. The Generals would not score again, however, leaving seven men stranded over the last four innings. Miroglio notched his first three-hit and three-RBI efforts as a General, picking up his third double in the last two days.
