October 28, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release
Westport, Conn. (Thursday, October 28, 2004) â The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today it has signed a Letter of Intent with Sinergia Deportiva S.A. de C.V., the wholly-owned subsidiary of CEMEX Corporation and operator of the Tigres UANL team located in Monterrey, Mexico to operate and field the Monterrey Tigres team in Monterrey as a member of the MISL for the 2004-05 season and beyond The MISL Management Committee has expressed great enthusiasm and fervent support for granting League membership rights to Sinergia Deportiva.
The MISL Monterrey Tigres will play their 20 MISL home matches at the Arena de Monterrey. The Tigres match schedule will follow what has already been released for the previous MISL Monterrey team, with slight modifications to the home dates to be announced in the near future. All Tigres away matches will be played as previously scheduled, including the contests against the Sockers in San Diego on Friday, October 29, 2004, and versus the Steamers in St. Louis on Saturday, November 6, 2004.
All MISL players are under contract with the League and the League has assigned the players to the Tigres team, and Erich Geyer, a native of Adelsdorf, Germany has been appointed as the team's Head Coach. Geyer was named the first (and only) head coach in the history of the Monterrey La Raza of the CISL/WISL. Under Geyer, La Raza quickly rose to dominance, winning CISL titles in 1995 and 1996 and the WISL title in 2000. Geyer also had a brief stint as head coach of the MISL team in Monterrey for the 2003-04 season.
