FC Tulsa vs. Monterey Bay F.C.
ONEOK Field; Tulsa, Oklahoma
Saturday, October 8, 2022; 5:30 p.m. PT
Records: FC Tulsa (11-15-6, 39 points); Monterey Bay F.C. (12-16-4, 40 points)
FiveThirtyEight Predictor: MBFC 32%, TUL 43%, Draw 25%
Match Outlook: The Crisp and Kelp enter the match in Tulsa needing a result to stay alive, as any loss would mathematically eliminate the Union from USL Championship playoff contention in 2022. With FC Tulsa already eliminated in the Eastern Conference, the Oklahoma side can only look to spoil the ending of Monterey Bay's inaugural campaign.
Connections: Monterey Bay's Jason Johnson finished the 2021 campaign with FC Tulsa, while Grant Robinson and James Murphy spent the 2021 season at Rio Grande Valley FC with Tulsa's Arturo Diz Pe. Walmer Martinez and Tulsa's Ronald Rodriguez are teammates with the El Salvadorian National Team, both making their international debuts in 2021. Mobi Fehr, Seku Conneh, and Robinson were teammates with Tulsa's Johnny Fenwick at Las Vegas in 2020, while Rafi Diaz and Arun Basuljevic shared the pitch with Tulsa's Noah Powder at Red Bulls II from 2016-2017. Lastly, Sam Gleadle and Tulsa's Brian Brown were teammates in 2018-2019 at Reno 1869, and Hugh Roberts, Conneh, and Tulsa's Marcus Epps all spent time with Philadelphia Union II, then Bethlehem Steel, in 2017.
Additional Notes: With a Western Conference playoff berth still hanging in the balance, the Union will need a win over FC Tulsa in addition to help around the league to stay alive beyond Saturday's final whistle. Monterey Bay F.C. is 4-10-1 so far this season on the road, while FC Tulsa is 8-4-3 as hosts.
