Monterey Bay F.C. Hosts New Mexico United at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside
April 7, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, California - Monterey Bay F.C. (1-2-1, 4 points) welcomes New Mexico United (1-1-0, 3 points) to Cardinale Stadium for a 7 p.m. PT kickoff on Saturday in Week 5 of the 2023 USL Championship regular season, presented by Monterey Marriott. Saturday's match will be broadcast locally via KION on FOX 35 (46.2 over the air, 35 Dish, 47 DirecTV and 3/702 HD Xfinity), with live streaming available on ESPN+.
Monterey Bay F.C. and New Mexico United last met in Albuquerque, New Mexico at Isotopes Park on August 20, 2022 in a match that ended 2-0 in favor of United. Prior to that, the first-ever meeting between the sides came on July 2, 2022. That match ended in a 1-1 draw after Chase Boone recorded the second-fastest goal in club history (1:43) to open the match. Through one season, New Mexico owns the all-time record 1-0-1 against the Union, including a 0-0-1 mark in Seaside.
Coming off of an exciting 3-1 road victory over USL League One side Central Valley Fuego FC that went into extra time before it saw a single goal scored, Monterey Bay F.C. is looking to carry that momentum into the weekend to get back on track in league play. On the other side, the visitors have only played twice so far this regular season, the most recent being a 1-0 loss to Roots SC in Oakland. During that match, New Mexico's leading midfielder Justin Portillo received a red card in the 71st minute and will not be unavailable for this weekend's match against the Crisp and Kelp.
"I'm looking forward to the game. I think we've played well in two of the three games we've played at home so far," said Monterey Bay F.C. Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop. "The points have not been quite what we wanted, but the performances have been decent so I am looking forward to trying to get a good result in this match against a good side."
