Time For a Repeat?

Sacramento finished the 2003 season with a record of 19-15 and finished the 2004 season with a record of 18-6, followed by win- ning the WNBA Championship in 2005. More recently, the Monarchs ended the 2007 season with a record of 19-15 and the 2008 season with a record of 18-16; if Sacramento follows this pattern, this year could be a repeat of its title season.

Penicheiro: WNBA's All-Time Leader in Assists and Steals

On Sept. 5, 2008, Ticha Penicheiro became the first player in WNBA history to eclipse the 2,000 assist mark as she dished out five against the Mercury in Phoenix. Additionally, Penicheiro recorded 67 steals during the 2008 season to reach 655 career steals and become the WNBA's all-time steal leader. In doing so, she passed the former mark of 632 set by Sheryl Swoopes.

Currently, Penicheiro has 2,027 career assists (5.9 per game) and 658 career steals (1.9 per game), as of 6/7/09

- The Monarchs started 0-2 for the second time in franchise history (previously done in 2002).

- Kara Lawson came off the bench to lead Sacramento with 17 points; Nicole Powell was the second Mon- archs player to tally a double-digit scoring figure as she added 14 points.

- Sacramento rookie center Courtney Paris scored her first career bucket at the 1:13 mark of the first quarter on a layup.

- The Monarchs reserves outscored the team's starters 40-30.

- Sacramento's only lead came at 2-1. The Storm led by as many as 16 points.

- The Storm won on Opening Night for the fourth straight season and improved to 5-4 in home open- ers. Additionally, the Storm recorded its fifth straight Opening Night sellout (9,686).

- For the third consecutive season and fourth time in franchise history, the Storm has started 2-0. Minne- sota and Washington are the only other 2-0 WNBA teams.

- The win was the Storm's 11th consecutive in a regular-season game at KeyArena, a new franchise record dating back to June 16, 2008.

- The Storm opened the game with a 15-2 run. - Lauren Jackson scored a game-high 25 points, her second straight 20-plus effort. Jackson scored the Storm's first eight points.

- Sue Bird tallied 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting. She added eight assists for the second straight game, which is tied for the most by a WNBA player in a game this season.

- Camille Little recorded a career-high four steals.
