
Monarchs Forward Kim Smith Undergoes Successful Surgery

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Oct. 15, 2008 - The Sacramento Monarchs today announced forward Kim Smith underwent successful surgery this morning to repair cartilage damage and remove a bone spur from her right ankle. Monarchs Team Doctor Kirk Lewis performed the surgery. It is projected she will be out four to six weeks; a complete recovery is expected.
Smith originally sprained her right ankle during practice on Aug. 20 of this year; she did not play in the post-season due to the injury. Through 21 games of the 2008 regular season, Smith averaged 1.6 points, 0.7 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.3 steals, 0.1 blocks and 6.8 minutes per game.
A first round selection (13th overall) by Sacramento in the 2006 WNBA Draft, Smith has appeared in 55 games for the Monarchs during her three-year career, averaging 8.4 minutes, 1.9 points, 1.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 0.3 steals per game.
