Monarchs announce 2004 training camp roster

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., April 26, 2004 - The Sacramento Monarchs today announce the 2004 Training Camp roster. Training Camp began Sunday, April 25, at the Kings/Monarchs Training Facility. Members of the media wishing to attend practice should call (916) 928-8126 or (916) 928-811, after 9 a.m. each day for practice times and location.

The Monarchs Camp roster contains nine returning players, two draft picks and six training camp invitees. Those attending the 2004 Sacramento Monarchs Training Camp includes: 11 guards, five forwards and one center. Sacramento's Camp roster shows a new international flavor with returning Monarchs Guards Ticha Penicheiro from Portugal and Hamchétou Maïga from Mali joined by French Forward Christelle Jouandon and Spanish Guard Núria Martínez.

Absent from this Training Camp roster are two with previous WNBA experience. On Wednesday, April 21, the Sacramento Monarchs waived Center, Jennifer Butler, from the organization. Butler, who was originally drafted by the Cleveland Rockers in the second round (15th overall) of the 2003 WNBA Draft, was sidelined for the 2003 WNBA Season with a torn left ACL. Monarchs veteran Forward, La'Keshia Frett, was traded to the Charlotte Sting, on Friday, April 23, for a third round draft pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft.

The Sacramento Monarchs will play their sole home preseason game on Thursday, May 14, versus the Seattle Storm at 7 p.m. at ARCO Arena. The first of seventeen home games will be played against the Minnesota Lynx on Opening Night, Saturday, May 22, at 7 p.m. at ARCO Arena. Sacramento's regular season will begin on the road on Thursday, May 20, at the Phoenix Mercury at 7 p.m. at America West Arena.
