
Molly Hatchet to rock Thunder's opening night post-game concert

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Committed to providing the maximum entertainment value possible, the Daytona Beach Thunder of the American Indoor Football League announces that it will stage a "seven-game concert series season" during its inaugural 2006 campaign.
Southern rock legends Molly Hatchet are confirmed for the post-game concert after the Thunder's home opener at the Ocean Center March 2, 2006. The remainder of the series, envisioned as an eclectic mix of rock, country and R&B will be announced shortly.
"Talk about more bang for your buck - a great football game AND a great concert,'' said Thunder Owner/CEO Zack McDonald, who made the Molly Hatchet announcement on WHOG's "Frank and Tracy Show" Thursday, December 15. "Our inaugural season won't be seven games - it will be seven events that will establish us in the Daytona Beach community."
Working with area promoter John Bird, the Thunder is currently in discussion with classic rock bands including Blackfoot, Dr. Hook, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Eddie Money, Starship, .38 Special, Kansas, Edgar Winter, and the Georgia Satellites. Also, legendary R&B groups such as the Temptations and the Drifters and country acts Aaron Tippin, Highway 101, Exile and the Hank Williams Jr. Legendary âBama band are in the mix.
"We're dedicated to providing a variety of performers," McDonald said. Formed in Jacksonville in 1975, Molly Hatchet is best known for its hit songs "Flirtin' With Disaster" and "Gator Country" that pair strong guitar riffs with pounding beats. They rank alongside Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers at the forefront of Southern rock.
"Molly Hatchet on the eve of Bike Week in Daytona Beach - how cool is that?" McDonald said.
Season tickets are now available by calling the Ocean Center box office at (386) 254-4545. Deep discounts are currently being offered for those who purchase in advance or in groups of three or more. "You're going to pay more at the door,'' McDonald said. "We encourage everyone to get their tickets at quickly as possible."
The Thunder, an expansion team in the second-year American Indoor Football League, begins play February 2006 in the Ocean Center.
