Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs lose to Amsterdam in the 9th

The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs are back on the field after the All-Star break and faced off at home against a familiar foe, the first place Amsterdam Mohawks.

The DiamondDawgs scored first in their half of the fist inning after a double steal by Tyler Heck and Chris Cruz (Cornell) who both lead off with singles in which the catcher dropped the ball at home plate allowing the first run of the ball game to score. The Mohawks tied up the game in the top of the second after Brian Ruby (Binghamton) singled following walks to Jeff Limbaugh (Parkland) and Josh Nethaway (UAlbany). The Dawgs struck again in the bottom of the fourth when Joe Carcone (Bryant) doubled in Mark Stuckey (Marist) to take a 2-1 lead. The Mohawks jumped out in front in the seventh when Scott Heath (Maine) scored on a wild pitch and Demarcus Henderson (Mississippi State) doubled and to score Ed Charlton (NJ Inst. of Technology) and take a 3-2 lead. The DiamondDawgs responded quickly in the bottom of the seventh when David Del Grande (Sacramento State) doubled to score Cruz and knot the ball game up at three. The DiamondDawgs put up one more run in the bottom of the eighth on a wild pitch to take a 4-3 advantage.

Sal Lisanti (Bryant) entered the game in the ninth and allowed a single by Scott Health and the Lisanti through a ball away as we tried to keep the runner close at first. Brian Ruby then reached on an error by the shortstop and

Ed Charlton doubled and Amsterdam took a 5-4. An error by the Dawgs second baseman resulted in another run and the Mohawks taking a 6-4 lead. The DiamondDawgs attempted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth and picked up a run on a wild pitch but left the tying run at third to lose the game 6-5.

Jesse Buratt (Baton Rouge C.C.) 2-1, 4.64 ERA pitched 6 2/3 innings and gave up 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and struck out 2. Taylor Wright (Brown) pitched 1 1/3 innings with 2 strikeouts. The loss went to Lisanti who pitched one inning giving up 2 hits, 3 runs, and a strikeout.

Chris Kallica (Fairfield) 0-0, 0.00 ERA pitched 6 innings for the Mohawks and gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and had 4 strikeouts. The win went to Chase Williamson (Auburn) who pitched 3 innings and gave up 4 hits, 3 runs, a walk and had 3 strikeouts.

The DiamondDawgs return home on Saturday for a 7:05 start versus the Albany Dutchman.
