
Modesto Sabers Announce Tryout Camp, New Head Coach

Modesto, CA. The new expansion ABA Modesto Sabers have just announced their first tryout camp and new head coach. "It has been a very busy week for us," stated team owner Saber Knott. "We're off to a great start. We've named the team, designed a new logo and hired a great head coach. And, we might as well as look as some of the area players while we're at it."
Head Coach TJ Walker Jr will supervise the tryout camp that will be held at Modesto Christian High School, 5755 Sisk Road, Modesto, CA 95356 on Friday and Saturday, June 13th and 14th from 10am to 2pm. Coach Walker has a very strong background in basketball having been a four-year starter for Modesto High School, 3 year All-District first team, 2-time District Player of the Year, 2 time MVP Central Valley Conference and scored 2015 points during his high school career.
In 1993-1994, he made the UOP All-Freshman team and in 1995-1996 was Modesto JC MVP. He attended Azuza Pacific Universith from 1997-1999 and was 2-time GSAC Player of the Year, 2 times first team All American and was the only player in school history and GSAC history to accomplish those honors, culminating his career with 2 Final Four appearances in the NAIA national tourney.
From 2000-2007, Coach Walker played for the Newcastle Eagles (British Basketball League),5-time All Star, won 3 consecutive championships in 05, 06, 07 and four other national cup and trophy championships during this period. From 2003-2007, he was a player assistant coach. In 2007-2008 he coached the Big Storage Cheshire Jets, and also played, leading the team to the Cup & Trophy semi-finals. "I am very pleased to be back in Modesto, where it all started, and I have one goal - the ABA Championship. We will be strong.
