Modesto, CA. Before he puts a team on the court, ABA Modesto Bearcats' team owner T.J. Walker is working diligently to surround himself with a team that can make his vision a success. Enter father and trusted basketball brain T.J. Walker Sr. as Director of Basketball Operations.
While most count their experience in years, Walker Sr. brings decades of experience to his position as he prepares to build the inaugural Modesto team. He has spent a great deal of his adult life teaching basketball fundamentals at the high school level, and he now looks forward to joining his son in putting a quality product on the court to represent the city of Modesto.
For another addition to the staff, Walker Jr. looked outside of the family to bring in Reggie Rucker as Marketing Director for the team. "I'm very impressed," Walker stated of the work Rucker has done to help community an identity for the team that the community can embrace. "I like to keep things close knit," Walker said, "so it has been great to have him come on and be on the same page as us immediately."
The team has a lot of work that remains in front of them. They are constantly working the phones looking for community partnerships to join as sponsors with the team. Despite the challenges presented by the difficult economy, they clearly aren't shrinking from the challenges or shying away from the work. As Walker Sr. says, "When the phones don't work, the feet have to!"
