Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla., - The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball issued recommendations to Major League Baseball, which was endorsed by Minor League Baseball, about fan safety and netting extending to the ends of the dugouts.
In accordance to those recommendations, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos are extending the backstop netting to the far ends of each dugout to increase the safety of fans at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
In response to injuries around Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball stadiums in recent years, this move is in line with Major League Baseball's recommendation that all stadiums of major league teams and their affiliates extend the netting by Opening Day 2017.
"We are very appreciative and grateful for our affiliation with Major League Baseball," said Blue Wahoos CEO Bruce Baldwin. "We are proud to make these changes as a member of Minor League Baseball as we always want to ensure the upmost safety to our fans."
"Our fan experience is important to us and a major part of that experience is safety. It is important to us that fans feel safe at Blue Wahoos Stadium. While we understand there are fans who do not want to sit behind netting, we fully believe this extension allows our fans to have a safe environment with their family, while still enjoying all facets of a Blue Wahoos game."
The netting, which is currently in front of sections 100, 101 and 102, will extend 60 feet in each direction from sections 100-106. The netting will be on the front of the dugout, so entertainment on top of the dugout will remain the same. There will also be openings to the left and right of the dugouts so players will still be able to toss balls into the stands behind the dugout.
Construction is currently scheduled for March 21 and 22.
The first game of the 2016 regular season at Blue Wahoos Stadium is on Tuesday, April 12th against the Jacksonville Suns. Blue Wahoos season tickets and mini plans are available now at Hill-Kelly Dodge Pick-Up Window and by calling (850) 934-8444.
