Wichita Wingnuts News Release
SALINA, Kans. (June 19, 2017) - TJ Mittelstaedt launched three home runs and drove in six as the Wichita Wingnuts rolled past the Salina Stockade 11-5 Monday night at Dean Evans Stadium.
With the game tied at one in the third, Mittelstaedt launched his first home run of the evening off of Salina starter Chris Cody (0-2), to give Wichita (20-10) the lead back at 3-1.
After the Wingnuts added another in the fourth, the Stockade (2-29) got a two-run homer from Cody Coffman in the fifth to cut the lead to one.
Wichita blew the game open in the sixth, putting up five. Christian Stringer ripped a two-run single off the glove of Salina first baseman Jesse Baker, and Mittelstaedt then added a three-run homer to push the lead to 9-3. Both Stringer and Mittelstaedt finished the night 4-for-5.
Mittelstaedt and the Wingnuts capped off their offensive onslaught in the eighth with two more, including a solo shot for Mittelstaedt's third long ball of the evening. The third baseman is the first to hit three homers in one game in franchise history.
Tyler Kane (5-1) was once again overshadowed by the offense, as he was given double-digit runs of support for the fourth straight outing. Kane has gone seven innings in each of those starts, and won all four. The righty allowed two earned runs over his seven frames to earn his fifth win, tying him for the league lead.
All five of Salina's runs came on long balls. After a Brent Clevlen RBI double got Wichita a 1-0 lead in the first, Baker hit a solo shot in the second to bring the Stockade level. Coffman hit his second two-run homer of the night in the ninth, to end the barrage of long balls.
The Wingnuts and Stockade continue their series Tuesday at Dean Evans Stadium. Righty Alex Boshers (3-2, 5.94) will be on the hill for Wichita, while Salina's starter is yet to be announced. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m., and the game will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO and TuneIn.
The Wingnuts return to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium Friday night to open-up a three-game series against the Cleburne Railroaders.
