Quad City Mallards News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Ryan Jardine broke a 3-3 third period tie with his second goal of the game and also had an assist and Sebastien Thinel piled up three assists as the host Missouri Mavericks escaped with a 4-3 win over the Quad City Mallards Saturday night.
Jardine gave the Mavericks' their fourth lead of the night on a breakaway at 7:55 of the third. Jardine put Missouri on top for good just two minutes and 21 seconds after the Mallards had rallied to tie the game for the third time when Matt Boyd (one goal and one assist) tipped in a Matt Duffy (two assists) shot.
The Mallards entered the third period trailing after a wild stretch of one minute and 24 second period seconds saw the Mavericks take a 2-1 lead on the power play, the Mallards re-tie the game while shorthanded and the Mavericks move in front for the third time with another man advantage goal. Ryan Jardine broke a 1-1 tie by crashing the net at 13:02 of the second. Controversially, another Mallard penalty immediately followed, but the Mallards would bounce back to tie the score when Mike Hellyer converted Mickey Lang's centering feed at 13:53. However, the deadlock lasted a mere 33 seconds before Andrew Courtney scored the second straight Maverick goal in goalmouth scramble.
The Mallards were first forced to play catch-up when Riley Emmerson's tip-in gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead at 10:04 of the first period. That lead would last just 19 seconds before the Mallards' Anthony Perdicaro (one goal and one assist) buried a rebound to tie the score. The Mallards pulled themselves up off the canvas to equalize on two more occasions but would prove unable to even the score a fourth time despite pressuring after going on the power play late in the third period and after emptying the net for an extra attacker in the final minute of the game.
The Mallards next play at home next Friday evening against the Fort Worth Brahmas. Next Friday the Mallards will wear Turn "Back to Back" the Clock jerseys that mark the fifteenth anniversary of the second of the two consecutive championships won by the Mallards in 1997 and 1998. Those jerseys will be auctioned off immediately after the Mallards wear them against the Brahmas. The auction - the first of two Genesis jersey auctions this season- will benefit the Genesis Flu Free QC program. Next Friday is also the first of the Mallards' College Nights- fans will be able to purchase $1 beer and $1 hot dogs through the end of the second intermission that evening.
Tickets for next Friday's tilt- as well as seats for all remaining Mallards regular season home games- can be purchased in person at the i wireless Center ticket office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
