Mississauga Power Hold Filipino Cultural Night for Typhoon Relief, Win

(Mississauga, ON) The Mississauga Power held Filipino Cultural Night for typhoon Haiyan relief this afternoon, raising money for the disaster in the Philippines. A crowd of over a thousand attended the game, with a special halftime performance by Mississauga-born rap sensation D-Pryde. Three players scored 20 or more points for the Power in the 111-108 win, including Thijin Moses, who scored a career high 27 points in his first career start. Dwight McCombs added 23 points and 10 rebounds while Nick Okorie chipped in with 20. Jerice Crouch led the SkyHawks with 23 points and 10 assists.

Moses scored 10 points in the first quarter on a blazing hot 75% from the field. The Power took the early lead 27-21 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second, Moses continued his hot shooting while the Power's defense continued to give the SkyHawks trouble. The Power extended the lead to 11, headed into the break with a 55-44 lead. Moses led all scorers with 17 points headed into the half.

In the third quarter, the Power had multiple thunderous dunks from Dwight McCombs which got the fans off their seats. The SkyHawks however, found their groove offensively, cutting the Power's lead down to 5 heading into the final frame.

The SkyHawks began scoring on all cylinders in the fourth quarter, tying up the game with 7 minutes left in the final quarter. After a timeout, the Power regained control of the game, building back up a 7 point lead following a Alex Johnson three pointer followed by a Okorie lay in. The game continued to go back and forth as the SkyHawks tied up the game at 103 with 40 seconds remaining. Alex Johnson made a tough step back two pointer to put the Power up two. The Power put the final touches on the game with a steal by Kirk Williams Jr. "I was just feeling it tonight, " explains Moses. He continues, "My teammates were finding me throughout the game and I just tried not to think too much before shooting."

The Power improve to 7-9 with the 111-105 win. The Power are back home on Thursday night to battle the Brampton A's for the Peel Cup.
