El Paso Generals News Release

EL PASO, TX: The most anticipated game of the 2009 IFL playoffs turned into an unlikely one-team show as the Billings Outlaws seal the Intense Conference Championship with a 66-35 win over the El Paso Generals on Saturday, August 1. Things got off to a great start on both sides of the ball for Billings as DB Jovan Jackson intercepted QB Tommy Jones to set up the first scoring drive of the night for the Outlaws. Charles Anthony ran in a 23-yard touchdown run to give Billings the early 7-0 in the first quarter. El Paso answered the early score with a Trey Crum 19-yard field goal to cut the lead to 7-3 at the midway point of the quarter. However, the Outlaws extended their lead to 14-3 when Chris Dixon found James Walton for a 22-yard touchdown pass to close out the opening quarter.

El Paso got back on the right track to start the second quarter when Jermaine Blakely ran in a one-yard touchdown run to make it a 14-9 ball game. However, the Outlaws continued to tack on more points as the offense put together a three play drive that would be capped off with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Dixon to Robert Redd. With the extra point good it was a 21-9 ball game. El Paso would keep it a close game through out the second quarter when Ulysses Odoms answered the Outlaws score with a three yard touchdown run to make it 21-16. Dixon would tack on another touchdown pass to Redd to extend the lead at 27-16. Tommy Jones would be intercepted on the Generals ensuing drive to set up the Outlaws next score which would be an 11-yard touchdown pass from Dixon to Redd making it 34-16. El Paso would close the gap on Billings to finish off the first half with a six-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Jones to Woodie making it 34-23.

Billings took over the ball game in the third quarter by outscoring the Generals 18-0 through out the quarter as Charles Anthony began everything with a 40-yard touchdown run to give Billings a 40-23 lead. The big factor in the quarter was the fact that El Paso was stopped twice on fourth down inside the Outlaws five yard line. Both stops led to Billings scores as Anthony ran in a 23-yard touchdown and Chris Dixon found James Walton for a 45-yard touchdown pass to close out the period with a 52-23 lead for Billings.

Billings would tack on 14 more points in the fourth quarter thanks to a few Nate Parseghian field goals and a Timothy Brown rushing touchdown. Tommy Jones would find Lemans Casimier and DeAngelo Woodie for a couple of touchdowns but it was not enough as the Billings Outlaws were crowned the Intense Conference Champions with a 66-35 win over El Paso.

Tommy Jones finished the game throwing for 254 yards and four touchdowns but ended up throwing three interceptions as well. Lemans Casimier led the Generals with nine receptions for 139 yards and one touchdown. Chris Dixon pilled up 131 passing yards, 88 rushing yards and six total touchdowns. James Walton led all Outlaws receivers with five catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns. The key factor in the ball game was the fourth down stops in the second half for the Billings defense. The Outlaws will host the 2009 United Bowl on August 15 versus the River City Rage and kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Additionally, the El Paso Generals front office staff announced that the Generals will be flying back into El Paso at 11:00 p.m on Sunday (August 2), fans and media are welcomed to greet the team after an incredible first season.
