The MISL week kicks off with a pivotal Central Division battle at Kemper Arena. Milwaukee is 2-0 against the Comets in 2003-04, winning those games by a combined score of 22-10. The Wave, riding a six-game winning streak, is undefeated against Central Division rivals this season.

Cleveland Force at Kansas City Comets

Cleveland and Kansas City meet for the second time within a week. The Force defeated the Comets 10-8 on January 11 in Cleveland. The Comets were 3-1 against the Force in 2002-03.

Baltimore Blast at St. Louis Steamers
Family Arena, 7:05 p.m. CT
The Steamers will welcome the chance to redeem themselves after an 8-2 loss in Baltimore on January 10. The Blast has outscored St. Louis 17-7 in winning the first three match-ups of the season between these clubs. Baltimore's four-game winning streak will be on the line.

The Blast will play its second road game in as many days, making its first trip to Monterrey Arena, where the Fury is averaging 11,933 fans per game. Entering the week, Baltimore is one of three teams in the League with a road record over .500 (4-3).

Notes: Jacob Ward completed his first MISL hat trick with the game-winning goal at 10:29 of overtime to lead San Diego to victory. The loss overshadowed a fantastic night for Monterrey's Genoni Martinez, who scored five goals and assisted on another for six points. Only two of the Fury's goals did not involve Martinez.

Notes: A crowd of 8,235 saw members of the 2002-03 Blast championship team receive their championship rings prior to the game, then watched Baltimore hold on for a tight 4-3 victory. Ricardinho brought Dallas within one with a goal at 10:42, but the Blast stood strong in front of goalkeeper Scott Hileman, who capped a fine weekend with 10 saves on 13 shots faced. Sagu turned in an equally solid performance with eight saves on 12 shots. The defending champs improved to 13-5 overall and 9-2 at 1st Mariner Arena.

Philadelphia scored two late fourth-quarter goals to force the extra stanza. Comets defender Jeff Davis continued a recent scoring surge with four points, and Dino Delevski registered a natural hat trick in the second and third quarters for Kansas City. Nikola Vignjevic led the KiXX with a pair of assists. Kansas City improved to 3-1 in overtime this season.

David Doyle was in net when Vignjevic popped home his game-winner; Doyle could not prevent the goal, but he did contribute three scores of his own. Five different players found the net for the KiXX, now 5-2 at home this season.

Cleveland scored the final three goals of the game to overcome an 8-7 fourth-quarter deficit; Marinaro accounted for the eventual game-winner at 11:07. Vlatko Andonovski scored three goals and Brian Soell added two scores for the Comets, who fell to 3-6 on the road this season.

Goalkeeper Scott Hileman continued his superior play of late with two wins, stopping 24 of 29 shots for an .828 save percentage. Hileman, who was named the League's Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, leads the League with 12 wins, ranks third in both minutes played (970) and saves (197), and is fourth with a 4.55 goals against average. Leading scorer Carlos Farias is sixth in the League with 28 points, is second with 20 assists. Denison Cabral is tied for seventh with 27 points. Defender Wendell Regis is fifth in the MISL with 33 blocks. A crowd of 8,235 was on hand as the Blast inducted former coach Kenny Cooper and longtime greats Mike Stankovic and Stan Stamenkovic into the Blast Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Baltimore is now second in the League with an average attendance of 5,654. With a win against St. Louis on Friday at home, the Blast is 8-0 on Friday nights this season. Baltimore plays twice on the road this weekend, in St. Louis on Saturday and in Monterrey on Sunday.

Nikola Vignjevic made his first goal as a member of the KiXX a consequential one, converting a shootout in overtime to secure a 5-4 win over Dallas on Sunday. The KiXX have allowed hat tricks to opposing players in three straight games (Matk Thomas, January 3; Dino Delevski, January 10; David Doyle; January 11). Defender Pat Morris, who was named the League's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, is tied for second in the League with 34 blocks. Morris has played in 81 straight games. Leading scorer Goran Vasic is fifth in the League with 30 points, and continues to lead the circuit with 21 assists. Joel Shanker ranks 15th in the League with 21 points. Goalkeeper Peter Pappas is fifth in the League with a 4.78 goals against average and also ranks among the MISL's leaders in wins (nine, tied for third), minutes (840, fourth), saves (195, fourth), and save percentage (.744, third). The KiXX continue a three-game homestand this Saturday against San Diego, and complete it on Saturday, January 24, against Monterrey.

Delevski has scored in 15 of his games this season, and now leads the MISL with 24 goals. Miodrag Djerisilo is tied for ninth in the League with 26 points and ranks fourth with 15 assists. Kansas City ranks second in the League offensively (6.5 goals scored per game), but remains in last place defensively, allowing 8.5 goals per game. The Comets host two important home games this weekend, beginning on Friday when division-leading Milwaukee comes to town.

Notes: Milwaukee was victorious Saturday in San Diego, improving to a League-best 13-3 and moving seven and one-half games in front of second-place Kansas City in the Central Division. The Wave, on a six-game winning streak, boasts the League's best home record (7-0) and best road mark (6-3), and leads the MISL in offense (6.7 goals per game) and defense (4.4 goals allowed per game). Greg Howes remains the League's top scorer with 38 points. Howes ranks second in goals with 22 and is third with 16 assists. Todd Dusosky (26 points, tied for ninth) and Michael King (23 points, tied for 13th) are also among the MISL's scoring leaders. Goalkeeper Dan Green saved 14 of 17 shots against San Diego, continuing his recent hot streak. With his sixth straight win, Green is now 8-1 on the season and leads the MISL in both goals against average (3.78) and save percentage (.781). Milwaukee's only game of the week is on Friday night in Kansas City against the division rival Comets.

Steve Butcher tops the Steamers with 27 points, (tied for seventh in the MISL) and 17 goals (tied for fifth). Goalkeeper Brett Phillips ranks seventh in the League with a 5.61 goals against average, fifth with 792 minutes played, and fifth with 181 saves. The Steamers are last in the MISL offensively (4.3 goals per game) and also rank last in shots per game, at 24.9.

In addition, he is tied for second with 34 blocks. Marco "Chikis" Lopez is 12th in the League with 25 points. Monterrey leads the MISL with 19 restart goals on the season; Martinez has scored seven, the most in the League. On Friday night, Jacob Ward completed the best night of his young MISL career with the overtime game-winner in a 9-8 win over Monterrey. Ward tallied three goals and two assists in the game. On Saturday, San Diego fell to 0-3 against Milwaukee this season with a 5-3 defeat. Leading scorer Paul Wright (23 points) is tied for 13th in the League. Defender Sean Bowers continues to increase his League lead in blocks; Bowers now has 53 rejections this season, 19 more than the next-closest competitor. Goalkeeper Victor Nogueira is third in the MISL with a 4.54 goals against average and is second in both minutes played (1,082) and saves (224). The Sockers travel to Philadelphia for their only game this week, on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Eastern.
LEAGUE NOTES
- The MISL has announced that the Milwaukee Wave's game on Saturday, January 31, against the St. Louis Steamers has been changed from a 4:00 p.m. CT start time to a 1:00 p.m. CT start time.

- MISL teams have drawn 394,628 fans to 76 openings thus far in 2003-04, for an average of 5,192 fans per game.
