GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Sagu, Dallas Sidekicks
Sagu saved 17 of 20 shots in the Sidekicks' 9-3 victory over the San Diego Sockers on Saturday, November 1. The native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, turned away 11 of the first 12 shots he faced as Dallas built a 5-1 halftime lead. For the season, the 30-year-old now ranks second in the MISL with a 3.77 goals against average and a .782 save percentage; is tied for the League lead with three wins; and leads the circuit in minutes played (350:20) and saves (79). Sagu, who has started 38 of Dallas' last 42 games, becomes the third Sidekick to win weekly honors this season, joining David Doyle (Offensive Player of the Week, October 6) and Nick Stavrou (Defensive Player of the Week, October 27).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Josh Timbers, Cleveland Force
Timbers posted two productive games against his former team as the Force went 1-1 against the Milwaukee Wave over the weekend. Timbers, 29, blocked four shots and recorded two assists in the two outings. The native of Morganton, NC, sat out the 2001-02 and 2002-03 MISL seasons after scoring 24 points and blocking 44 shots in 39 games for the Milwaukee Wave during the 2000-01 campaign. Timbers joins Jim Larkin (Goalkeeper of the Week, October 27) as Cleveland players to garner weekly honors in 2003-04.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greg Howes, Milwaukee Wave
Howes led all MISL scorers over the weekend, with four goals and six points in two games as the Wave went 1-1 against the Cleveland Force. The 26-year-old scored two goals (including the game-winner) and assisted on two others in Milwaukee's 8-5 win over the Force on Friday, October 31, at U.S. Cellular Arena, and bagged two more goals on Saturday as the Wave fell 10-6 in Cleveland. Howes is now tied for second in the MISL with nine points (five goals, four assists) in four games. The native of Tacoma, WA, scored the 100th goal of his MISL career on Saturday, and has now appeared in 129 consecutive games (the fourth-longest such streak in Milwaukee history).
