MISL names players of the week

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Dan Green, Milwaukee Wave

Green was stellar in goal as Milwaukee swept weekend rivalry games with St. Louis and Chicago and regained possession of first-place in the MISL Central Division. The 32-year-old goalkeeper stopped 23 of 30 shots and had an impressive 3.50 goals-against average in the two wins. For the season, Green is 2-1 with a 5.20 g.a.a. The native of Waukesha, Wisc., began his professional indoor career with the Detroit Rockers in 1996. He was acquired by the Wave in Oct., 1998, and has played the last seven seasons with Milwaukee. Green has a career record of 38-26 and a career save percentage of .710 (1336 shots, 949 saves). He enjoyed his best season to date in 2003-04, when he led MISL goalkeepers with an .857 winning percentage (18-3) and a 4.03 g.a.a., and placed third with a .753 save percentage. Green was named MISL Goalkeeper of the Week three times in 2003-04 (Jan. 5, March 29, April 3).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Genoni Martinez, Monterrey Tigres

Martinez scored four goals and added two assists to lead Monterrey to a 1-1 record in a pair of weekend games. The two-time defending MISL Defender of the Year had been held without a goal in his first four games this season, but broke through with a pair of restart goals and an assist in the Tigres' 6-3 win over the Chicago Storm on Dec. 3. The 29-year-old Mexico native, scored two additional goals and added two blocks on Dec. 4, when Monterrey lost 9-5 to the Kansas City Comets. For the season, Martinez has four goals, three assists and seven blocks. During his seven-year career in the League, he has played 213 games and totaled 207 goals, 152 assists, and 354 blocks. Martinez has also played professional indoor in the CISL and WISL. In 2003-04, he was twice named the MISL Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 6, Nov. 24). Martinez was also the MISL Defensive Player of the Month for November and March.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Carlos "Chile" Farias, Baltimore Blast

Farias totaled three goals and two assists in leading Baltimore to an 11-7 victory over the Cleveland Force on Dec. 4. Farias' three second-half goals helped Baltimore gain its first victory since Oct. 29., as the Blast snapped a five-game losing streak. With his five points, Farias moved into a tie with St. Louis forward Daryl Doran atop the Spalding Scoring Champion standings with 18 points on the season. The 28-year-old forward finished in second- (2002-03) and third-place (2003-04) in the Spalding Scoring race the past two seasons, and led the MISL in assists in 2003-04 with 43. A native of Santiago, Chile, Farias began his professional indoor career in 1996. He was named an MISL All-Star and an All-League selection in each of the past two seasons. Farias was honored as the MISL Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2003-04 (Nov. 9, Jan. 25), and was named the MISL Offensive Player of the Month for January.

Jamar Beasley, Kansas City Comets

Beasley scored three goals and added two assists in leading the Kansas City Comets to a 9-5 win over the Monterrey Tigres on Dec. 4. The 2003-04 MISL Rookie of the Year had missed Kansas City's previous three games while competing with the U.S. National Futsal Team at the FIFA World Championships in Chinese Taipei. Including his three second-half scores against the Tigres, the 25-year-old forward has five goals and three assists in three games this season. During the 2003-04 season, Beasley led all MISL newcomers in scoring with 46 points (31 goals, 15 assists), and finished second on the Comets in points. Before coming to the MISL, the native of Fort Wayne, Ind., played professionally in Major League Soccer, A-League, and Italy's "Serie C." Beasley also played with the U.S. U20 team and trained with Italian club AC Milan. This is Beasley's first MISL Player of the Week award.
