MISL Names Pat Morris Defensive Player of the Week

Philadelphia, PA, January 12, 2004 â The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX defender Pat Morris has been named the League's Defensive Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending January 11. The honor is the second such accolade for the Philadelphia native; he also received the weekly award for the seven-day period ending December 28.
Morris solidified the KiXX defense with a team-high five blocks, leading the club to a two-game split in the back-to-back set. The 26-year old defender first recorded a goal and blocked a game-high three shots in the team's 6-5 overtime loss to the Kansas City Comets in Kansas City on January 10, then added two rejections versus the Dallas Sidekicks in the KiXX' 5-4 overtime victory at the Wachovia Spectrum on January 11. Led by Morris, the Philadelphia defense recorded 19 combined blocks in the team's two outings. He now ranks tied for second in the MISL with 32 blocks this season and is sixth on the team's scoring list with 13 points on 10 goals and three assists.
The two-time all-star was named to the All-Rookie team in 1999-00 and to an All-League team twice, 2001-02 and 2002-03. The Philadelphia University graduate finished his collegiate career fourth all-time in school history with 49 goals and 120 points. Morris was an All-State selection and two-time All-Catholic League honoree at his alma mater, Northeast Catholic High School.
Morris and the KiXX continue a three-game homestand this Saturday, January 17 with a meeting versus the San Diego Sockers. The night, dubbed "Salute to All America's Heroes," is dedicated to police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, armed services and veterans. Game-time at the Wachovia Spectrum is slated for 7:05 pm ET.
