Published on January 12, 2004 under Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Scott Hileman, Baltimore Blast

Hileman went 2-0 and allowed five goals in Baltimore's back-to-back home victories over the weekend. In an 8-2 win over the St. Louis Steamers on Friday, Hileman saved 14 of 16 shots and did not surrender a goal for the first 52 minutes of the contest. The 31-year-old was equally impressive in a 4-3 win over Dallas, turning away 10 of 13 shots and holding the Sidekicks to two goals through the first 55 minutes of play. Hileman now ranks fourth in the MISL with a 4.55 goals against average, is third in both minutes played (990) and saves (197), and leads the League with 12 victories. The native of Phoenix is Baltimore's all-time leader in wins, saves, save percentage, games played, and minutes played. A two-time All-League selection and All-Star, Hileman was also named the MISL's Goalkeeper of the Week this past November 17.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Pat Morris, Philadelphia KiXX

Morris was solid yet again on the backline for Philadelphia this past weekend, earning his second Defensive Player of the Week Award (he also earned the honor on December 29). Morris scored a goal and blocked three shots (a game high) in Philadelphia's 6-5 overtime loss to Kansas City on Saturday night, and added two rejections as the KiXX defeated the Dallas Sidekicks 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. The 26-year-old leads the team and is tied for second in the League with 34 blocks. The Philadelphia University product made his second straight All-Star appearance in and was named to the second All-League team of his career in 2002-03.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Genoni Martinez, Monterrey Fury

Martinez continued a superb 2003-04 season on Friday night in a 9-8 overtime loss in San Diego. The 27-year-old backliner was involved in six of his team's eight goals, finishing with five goals and an assist. Martinez also blocked three shots to increase his total to 34, tied for second in the League. The reigning Defender of the Year remains the highest-scoring defender in the MISL with 34 points (second overall), and also ranks among the League leaders in goals (20, third) and assists (14, tied for fifth). The native of Mexico City has either scored or assisted on 46 percent of Monterrey's goals this season, and accounted for 20 percent of the team's blocked shots. Martinez was named the League's Defensive Player of the Week on October 6 and November 24, and earned Defensive Player of the Month honors for December. He joins Dallas' Nick Stavrou as the only players in the MISL this season to garner both Defensive and Offensive weekly honors.
