
Miracles Lose a Heartbreaker to the Lightning

(Moncton, NB) The Moncton Miracles, presented by Rogers, lost to the London Lightning in Game 4 of Round 2 in the NBL of Canada Playoffs with a final score of 98-104 to end their playoff run.
Miracles fans came out once again in full force in Game 4 to push their team to an early 5-0 lead over the Lightning after Devin Sweetney drained a 3 and Isaac Butts dominated in the key. With 9:12 on the clock early on London's Antwi Athuahene would tie the game up when he would cash in on a 3-point play after being fouled driving to the lane 5-5.
It would be a fast paced quarter going basket for basket and no team pulling ahead more than a basket. When the media time-out came with 4:29 on the clock the Miracles would have a 15-13 lead. Lightning's Elvin Mims would finish the first quarter with a buzzer beater shot to give his team the advantage at the end of the first 12-minutes, 18-23.
3 minutes into the second quarter Moncton would be forced to call a time-out with London coming out of the gates in control of the ball game and pulling ahead 24-30. Lightning's Marvin Phillips would drain a 3 with 8:19 on the clock to take their first double-digit lead of the game over the Miracles, 24-35.
London would show no signs of slowing down and build on the momentum they were building and strengthen their lead to 32-47 4 minutes later. The first half would end with the Miracles trailing 39-53 t0 the Lightning.
Moncton would start the third quarter with a quick 4-points to bring the game within 10-0points, 42-53. London would not sit back for long and quickly pull ahead once again, 43-61. The Miracles would feel the loss of Sylvania Watkins for another game this series in the third quarter.
The closest Moncton would be able to come within their opponents in the third was 10-points. With 2 minutes left to play in the third quarter Lightning's Adrian Moss would nail a 3-point shot to put his team up 63-79. The third quarter would end with the Miracles once again making it a 10-point game, 69-79.
Moncton players showed how bad they wanted it and would not let down their fans and push to try and pull out the win. Darrell Wonge would hit a jumper with 8:08 left to play and bring his team within 9, 75-84.
The Miracles would not slow down and Favors would go to the line with 4:55 on the clock to finish off a 3-point play and bring the fans to their feet, 90-92. Sweetney would tie the game up at 92-92 with 3:56 on the clock bringing Moncton fans to their feet!
Late in the game the Miracles would be down 98-99 and continue to have to foul to try and get the ball back sending the Lightning to the line to pull ahead.
Isaac Butts led the way for the Miracles with 25 points and 20 rebounds. Devin Sweetney followed with 24 points while Darrell Wonge and Herman Favors added in with 17 points each.
DeAnthony Bowden was the force for the Lightning with 28 points. Rodney Buford and Adrian Moss both dropped 15 points.
London's Marvin Phillips and Moncton's Isaac Butts were fouled out of the game.
