Miracles Get Run over by Express

(Moncton, NB) The Moncton Miracles lost to the Windsor Express with a final score of 96-104.

Both teams were slow starting the scoring in this game until Sylvania Watkins went to the line to sink one 2 minutes into the first quarter. At the media time out at the 6-minute mark the Miracles were holding on to a 12-10 lead over the Express. The first quarter continued to stay close and go point for point and was tied up at 21-21 with 2:24 left on the clock.

3 minutes into the second quarter the game was still tied up at 31-31 with both teams competing at both ends of the floor. Windsor started to pull ahead slowly and with 6:35 left to play in the second was holding on to a 34-41 lead. Moncton would continue to fight back and bring it with 40-41 less than 2 minutes later. At the end of the first half the Miracles were trailing 50-52.

The Express came out strong in the third and began to pull ahead a basket at a time. With less than 6 minutes on the clock in the third they were holding on to a 61-69 lead. The Miracles would continue to fight back and had shortened the spread to 4 points with 2 minutes left in third, 70-74.

The Miracles would continue to try and fight back but the Express was not giving up their lead with ease and would lead by 9 point for the majority of the fourth quarter.

Devin Sweetney led the way for the Miracles with 21 points. Micah Brand followed with 20 points in his debut with the team.

Mike Helms was the top scorer for the Express with 29 points. Darren Duncan was right behind him with 20 points and 8 assists.

The Miracles will be West Riverview School on Monday morning for a school assembly to talk about their School Pride Program. The team will also be at Empire Theatres Tuesday evening from 5pm to 6pm recognizing youth volunteers.

The Miracles play their next game on the road against the London Lightning on Thursday, December 13th. Tip-off is 7pm at the John Labatt Centre. The next home game will be Sunday, December 23rd against the Halifax Rainmen.
