Miracles Fourth Quarter Rally Comes up Short against the Mill Rats

(Moncton, NB) The Moncton Miracles lost to the Saint John Mill Rats with a final score of 116-111 in front of 1,078 fans.

The Miracles squad was hungry at the start of the game and took an early 8-2 lead over their 506 rivals the Mil Rats forcing them to call a time-out less than 2 minutes into the game. Saint John would slowly get their legs and go on a 26-10 run and lead by as many as 10 late in the first quarter. At the end of the first twelve minutes of play the Mill Rats led 33-22 over the hometown squad.

Moncton would continue to push to try and shorten the Saint John lead and would end the half down 5, 52-47. Dwayne Smith would lead the way for the Miracles in the first twenty-four minutes with 14 points while Troy Brewer added in with 11. Miracles alumni Johnny Mayhane dropped 19 points for the Mill Rats.

Zack Atkinson would hit a fade away jumper with 37 seconds remaining in the third to tie the game up 78-78. The Mill Rats would hit two quick shots at the end to finish in control of the scoreboard 83-78.

Miracles Tramar Sutherland would go coast-to-coast tie the game 88-88 with 8:03 left in the game. The Mill Rats would begin to pull ahead until with 30 seconds left in the game the home team would put up a quick 4 points and shorten the lead back to 113-111. Moncton would get to chances at the end to hit three's and could not finish it off.

The Miracles had 3 players with double doubles in the loss. Stanley Robinson dropped 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, Dwayne Smith had 18 and 12, and Trayvon Lathan had 10 and 10.

Chris Matthews and Tyler Murray did not play due to injuries and are day to day. Technical foul was handed out to Trayvon Lathan.

Johnny Mayhane was on fire for the Mill Rats and had 31 points. Kenny Jones and Darin Mency each added in with 23, while Mency pulled down 11 boards for the double double.

The team hits the road this weekend and play against the Saint John Mill Rats January 24th and the Island Storm January 25th. The Miracles next home game is scheduled for Sunday, February 1st against the Halifax Rainmen. Tip-off is 2pm at the Moncton Coliseum.
