Snohomish County Explosion News Release

MONROE, Wash. - April 29, 2008 - The sun was out to greet players and volunteers alike at the Miracle League of Monroe season opener Saturday, April 26 at Lake Tye Park.

Disabled athletes came from across Snohomish County to participate in the two-game series; the first double-header in Monroe Miracle League history.

"We started out with seven kids and now we have well over 60," said Collette Reams, Assistant Coordinator for the Miracle League. "It's 1000% growth!"

The Snohomish County Explosion participated as "body blockers" during the game, making sure that every player was protected from incoming hits and other hazards on the field. Explosion players and staff, including Chris Weakly, Mike Jones, CEO Nathan Mumm and General Manager Brad Sturlaugson were on-hand for the event.

"We couldn't have picked a better day to come out and support the Miracle League," Sturlaugson said. "They are such a great group of kids to interact with and the weather cooperated beautifully. It was a rewarding experience for everyone involved."

Both games ended with a group huddle and chant of "EXPLOSION" on three.
