Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS -- After Friday's heartbreaker, the Fort Myers Miracle rebounded behind ace David Bromberg, Evan Bigley, and Chris Cates in a 2-1 defeat of the Jupiter Hammerheads at Hammond Stadium.

Bromberg (13-3) went five innings and allowed just one earned on three hits. He walked two and struck out eight to help increase his league lead in strikeouts over Lakeland's L.J. Gagnier. Henry Arias worked two and two-thirds scoreless innings despite one hit and three walks, and Matt Williams sat down every man he faced for his first Miracle save in 2009. The Australian right-hander went one and one-third with two strikeouts.

Jupiter took a lead briefly in the top of the fourth, but Evan Bigley tied it up with a solo homer in the bottom of the same inning. In the next frame, Fort Myers started things off with a hit by pitch of Joe Benson. Deibinson Romero singled on a line drive to right field, and Benson went first to third. Up came Chris Cates, who lined it over the second baseman's head to bring in what would end up being the winning run.

Williams came on in the eighth inning and got the first batter to ground out to end the inning with the bases loaded, then he got the Hammerheads 1-2-3 in the ninth to slam the door.

The starting pitchers in Sunday's rubber match will be right-hander Thomas Koehler and lefty Mike Tarsi for the Miracle.
