Miracle continue winning

FORT MYERS, FL (August 30, 2005) - The Fort Myers Miracle continued to win the games they play, but couldn't get any help on Tuesday night as they defeated the Tampa Yankees 6-3 at Hammond Stadium, but the Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the Sarasota Reds 4-2 and the Miracle remain 2.5 games out of a playoff berth with five games to play.

The Miracle took the early lead, scoring in the first when Jake Mauer reached on an infield single. He went to third on a double by Justin Arneson and scored on Kyle Geiger's sacrifice fly.

The Yankees took a 2-1 lead in the third on RBI singles by Justin Christian and Vince Faison and made it 3-1 in the fifth on a solo homer from Mark Carroll.

The Miracle mounted their comeback in the fifth scoring three times to take a 4-3 lead. Andrew Thompson led off with a single to right and Ron Perodin walked. One out later Mauer doubled down the left field line to tie the score at three. With two outs Geiger singled to center to give the Miracle a 4-3 lead and extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

The Miracle added two insurance runs in the seventh when Matt Tolbert singled to right-center. Mauer followed with a walk and Arneson singled to load the bases. Two wild pitches plated two runs.

Miracle starter Scott Tyler earned his seventh victory of the season going 5.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out five. Chris Schutt tossed 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and Jay Sawatski earned his 13th save of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth.

The Miracle will look to gain ground in the playoff race and go for the series sweep Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium at 7:05 p.m. The Miracle send RHP Adam Harben (9-5, 2.57) to the hill against Yankee LHP Edgar Soto (0-0, 6.75).
