
Miracle Commit Five Errors, Lose to Yankees 8-2

FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 5, 2013) - The Tampa Yankees took advantage of a season-high five errors by the Fort Myers Miracle in an 8-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Hammond Stadium.
The Miracle tied the game 2-2 on an RBI single by Miguel Sano in the sixth, but their defense committed three errors in the seventh that led to three runs for the Yankees. Tampa added three more in the eighth to cruise to the victory in the opener of the four-game series between the teams.
With Taylor Rogers on the mound in the seventh, Eddie Rosario booted a routine ground ball to put runners on first and second with no outs. Rogers rebounded to strike out Mason Williams and Ben Gamel, but Robert Refsnyder reached on an infield single and Dan Fiorito scored on the play when Levi Michael's throw to first skipped by Drew Leachman.
Jose Toussen scored one batter later when Gary Sanchez hit an infield single and Sano threw a ball away into the Tampa dugout.
Dakota Watts walked three batters, threw two wild pitches and hit Toussen in the eighth inning. Three more Yankees crossed home in the frame.
A trio of Yankees pitches held the Miracle to two runs and six hits. Starter Scottie Allen scattered three hits in six innings. He struck out two. Fred Lewis pitched two scoreless innings and struck out five. Matt Daley pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts.
In a rehab start for the Minnesota Twins, Cole De Vries pitched four innings. He allowed six hits, including three doubles, and two runs. He received a no decision.
Sano and Rosario each had two hits for the Miracle but both committed two errors.
The Miracle (23-6) and Yankees (13-16) will meet again at Hammond Stadium on Monday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The broadcast can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM and on www.miraclebaseball.com with Brice Zimmerman and Adam MacDonald beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the Square One Burgers and Bar pregame show.
