March 12, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Minnesota United FC News Release
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Thursday, March 12th, 2015) -- Minnesota United has announced a renewed TV partnership with KSTC-45TV to broadcast all home and away games for the 2015 North American Soccer League (NASL) season plus any postseason matches. The NASL season kicks off April 4th. Minnesota United will play a total of 30 matches, all of which will be broadcast on KSTC-45TV.
"I'm thrilled to continue to grow our relationship with KSTC-45TV. We had a great partnership last year and being able to broadcast all of our away matches for the 2015 season is fantastic news for our club, our fans and our partners," said United President Nick Rogers.
KSTC-45TV broadcast all 2014 Minnesota United home matches, including the Championship semifinal November 8th against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
"We are excited to continue and expand our relationship with Minnesota United," said KSTC-45TV Station Manager Susan Wenz. "Soccer's popularity is growing every year in our area, so we look forward to broadcasting more games for viewers to enjoy."
The news comes during an exciting preseason for United. The team recently returned from a preseason trip in Arizona where the club played some friendly matches against the Seattle Sounders and Sporting KC.
United continues its preseason training in Brazil from March 11th-23rd. This will mark the second straight year United has taken an international preseason trip after last year's trip to St. George's Park in England.
In addition to expanded coverage, the Minnesota United broadcast team will get a new look for the 2015 season. U.S. Soccer Hall of Famer, Alan Willey will provide color commentary for all home and away broadcasts. Willey will add 17 years of experience and knowledge as a player, as well as decades of experience watching the game to help provide insight and analysis during the broadcast.
"Minnesota United is a first class organization from top to bottom and I am really looking forward to being a part of the club this season," said Willey. "I have been to a lot games the past two years with my family and now I will have the best seat in the house!"
Willey is the second all-time leading scorer in NASL history. Willey played forward for the Minnesota Kicks from 1976-1981 and Strikers in 1984. Willey scored 80 goals with the Minnesota Kicks, 15 with the Minnesota Strikers, and 34 with Montreal for a total of 129 NASL goals.
Minnesota native Chris Lidholm, who has been the voice Minnesota soccer broadcasts for more than 20 years, will continue as the club's play-by-play announcer. Former color commentator Buzz Lagos will continue to have a role with club doing weekly studio features analyzing and breaking down matches from a tactical perspective.
United kicks off its 2015 campaign April 11th against the Tampa Bay Rowdies in Tampa and open its home season April 25th against defending NASL champions, the San Antonio Scorpions. 2015 Season tickets are on sale now at mnunitedfc.com/tickets.
