Minnesota United FC News Release
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - MLS today announced that the Minnesota United match at Sporting Kansas City originally scheduled for Sunday, November 1 at Children's Mercy Park has been canceled.
After confirming one case on Wednesday, a second Minnesota United player was today confirmed positive for COVID-19. Due to the limited number of match dates available prior to Decision Day presented by AT&T, the match will not be rescheduled.
Additionally, the San Jose Earthquakes vs. Los Angeles Football Club match scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 1 has been postponed. Earlier this week, LAFC announced three positive cases of COVID-19 among their player group. While the remaining players and staff have continued to test negative, including yesterday, out of an abundance of caution, the match has been postponed to allow for additional testing and evaluation.
Major League Soccer is evaluating whether the match can be rescheduled prior to Decision Day presented by AT&T, which takes place Nov. 8.
As confirmed earlier this week, multiple clubs will finish the season without playing the full 23 scheduled matches due to disruptions from COVID-19. As such, qualification for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs will be determined by points earned on a per match basis, or points per game.
