Minnesota United Aims to Extend Unbeaten Streak to Nine Games Saturday
August 8, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Minnesota United FC News Release
Minneapolis, Minn. (Friday, August 8th, 2014) -- After taking three points from TCF Bank Stadium last Saturday, Minnesota United FC (3W-1T-0L, 10pts) aims to extend its North American Soccer League unbeaten streak to nine games Saturday, August 9, as it plays host to FC Edmonton (1W-2T-2L, 5pts).
United faces a difficult matchup against an FC Edmonton side that has hit top form this past week, having defeated top of the table San Antonio last Saturday and drawing 0-0 with the New York Cosmos on Wednesday. On the line for United is the club's third straight Flyover Cup title. A win in Blaine over the weekend could also push United to the top of the NASL Fall Season standings and closer to capturing home field advantage throughout The Championship. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. The match will be broadcast live on KSTC45-TV and NASLLive.com.
"Edmonton has always been a physical, strong, solid team," said Minnesota United Head Coach Manny Lagos. "I think defensively they've been one of the best teams in the league the over last couple of years. We know they're going to be organized, we know they're going to present a lot of good discipline to their game, so it's important for us to be ready to be sharp and play well on both sides of the ball."
For United the match could mark the debut of new signing, Salvadoran Rafael Burgos, who will have a full week of practice with his new teammates out of the way and will be itching to make an impact in his first appearance for the club this Saturday. Burgos could enhance the attacking strengths of league-leading goal scorer Christian Ramirez and help United maintain pressure for a full 90 minutes.
