Weekend Recap:

The Magicians faced off in a Home & Home series vs. the Austin Bruins this past weekend. On Friday, the two teams met in Austin at Riverside Arena in the first what will be four straight games between the rivals. After the Magicians forced overtime with a late 3rd period goal, former Magicians forward Tony Uglem scored the game winner for Austin on the powerplay after a controversial holding call. On Saturday, the rematch took place at Richfield Ice Arena before an announced crowd of 1,064. Two early Bruins goals resulting from a 5-minute major early in the game set the Magicians back early, and things quickly unraveled thereafter with Austin ultimately winning the game running away. Up next is another Home & Home series with Austin on February 6th and 7th. The teams will play at Richfield Ice Arena on Friday the 6th, and they will return to Riverside Arena in Austin on the 7th.

Friday:

Final Score: Magicians 3 - Bruins 4 (OT)

Star of the Game: Connor Bucsis - The recently acquired forward had an assist and tied the game late in the third period with his 3rd goal in 6 games with the Magicians.

Venue: Riverside Arena - Austin, MN

Game Summary:

The Magicians arrived at Riverside Arena looking to defeat the Austin Bruins on the road for the first time ever on Friday night. The Bruins hit the board late in the first period and entered the intermission with a one goal advantage. In the 2nd, rookie defenseman Nolan Schaeffer tied the game with a powerplay goal assisted by Lukas Laub and Connor Bucsis. Austin regained the lead shortly before the 2nd intermission and took a one goal lead into the break once again. In the third, the Magicians and Bruins traded goals once more before Connor Bucsis tied the game with just over 7 minutes remaining in regulation. Neither team was able to score again in the third so overtime was necessary to determine the winner. After Sam Becker was called for a controversial holding penalty, former Magician Tony Uglem scored on a wrist shot from the top of the circles to end the game and send the Magicians home in defeat.

Game Summary:

The Magicians returned to Richfield Arena on Saturday, playing in front of their largest home crowd of the season and looking to bounce back from a disappointing overtime loss on Friday. After falling behind early when a 5-minute major resulted in a powerplay goal and a second goal immediately after the penalty time expired, the Magicians were never able to catch up to the skillful Bruins. After one period, the score read 3-0 in favor of the visitors. After two, Austin led 5-1 and by the time the game had ended, it was a 8-1 runaway for the reigning Central Division champions.

Despite the outcome on the ice, it was a night of goodwill and philanthropy in the stands. The Magicians hosted their 2nd annual "Pucks for Paws" night benefiting Secondhand Hounds animal rescue which raised funds and awareness for the organization. Fans got to meet and interact with several Secondhand Hounds dogs that are currently up for adoption, and the 1st intermission was devoted to the organization and their animals.
