This Week's Opponents - Washington & San Antonio
This week's Lynx schedule features a visit from the Eastern Conference's Washington Mystics and a home-and-home series with San Antonio. Alana Beard will lead the 5-4 Mystics to Minneapolis Tuesday night for "Minnesota Idol Night." The Mystics are lead by Beard, who stands fourth in the league in scoring, averaging 18.9 ppg. Five other Mystics average at least 8.0 ppg, including rookie Marissa Coleman's 12.7 ppg. The Lynx are 9-8 all-time versus Washington, including having swept the 2008 season-series. Minnesota is 4-0 versus Eastern Conference foes this season.
The San Antonio Silver Stars will pay their first visit to Target Center Friday night. The 2008 Western Conference regular season champions, San Antonio is 4-4 to start the 2009 season and is lead by the dynamic tandem of Sophia Young and Becky Hammon. The duo combines to average 36.6 pgg, and rank 5th (Hammon, 18.8 ppg) and 7th (Young, 17.8 ppg) respectively in scoring. Minnesota is 22-13 all-time vs. San Antonio, including 17-6 in teams' last 23 meetings. The Lynx are 16-2 all- time at home versus the Silver Stars and captured the 2008 season- series, 3-1. Minnesota will head to San Antonio on Sunday for the back end of the home-and-home series.
Tuesday is 'Minnesota Idol Night' with the Lynx
2009 American Idol Semi-Finalists and local musicians Casey Carlson and Jesse Langseth will headline 'Minnesota Idol Night' this Tuesday when the Lynx take on Washington. Carlson, an Eden Prairie resident, will sing the National Anthem, while Langseth, the sister of Grammy Award-winner Jonny Lang, will perform a free postgame concert immediately following the conclusion of the game. Carlson and Langseth both made it to the top 36 of the 2009 season of American Idol. Both will be available from 6 - 6:45 p.m. for a meet-and-greet session and autographs.
Anosike Totaling Impressive Numbers
Anosike registered her second double-double of the season (seventh career) in the June 30 victory at Atlanta, totaling 17 points and a season- high 12 rebounds. The six-foot-three post also picked off a career-high seven steals vs. the Dream -- matching Svetlana Abrosimova's franchise single-game record -- and went 9-for-10 from the line. She currently leads the WNBA in FT attempts (73). Anosike also led the Lynx in assists in both games last week, finishing one short of her career best with the seven-assist effort vs. Sacramento. She leads all WNBA post players in assists (15th overall) at 3.0 apg. She also stands 2nd in steals (3.18 spg), 6th in rebounds (7.2 rpg), 10th in blocked shots (1.18 bpg) and 9th in FG accuracy (52.2%)...
