Alexandria Blizzard News Release
The Minnesota Blizzard Junior "A" Hockey team stayed on top in the NAHL Western Division, after a 7-3 win over the Helena Bighorns Monday evening at the Runestone Community Center. A four-goal outburst bridging the second and third periods proved decisive for the Blizzard. Scott Motz (Maplewood, MN) had his first multi-goal game in his Junior Hockey career, scoring twice to pace the Minnesota attack. Sean Fish (Ramsey, MN) scored the lone Blizzard goal in the first period. Motz, along with teammates Andrew Olson (Alexandria, MN) and Tim Manthey (Anoka, MN) each scored in the middle period, which ended with the Blizzard in front, 4-3. Minnesota put the game out of reach, with three goals in fhe first 3:36 of the last period. Motz, Shawn Bitzan (Alexandria, MN), and Sam Windsor (Plymouth, MN) found the back of the net in the third period. The Blizzard out-shot Helena in the contest, 40-32.
The win raised the Blizzard record to 20-10-2 on the year. In the inaugural season of 2003-04, it took the Blizzard until Game 55 to record their 20th win of the season. This year's team accomplished the feat, in 23 fewer games. MInnesota will host Helena again this coming Thursday, December 30th, at the Runestone Center in Alexandria. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
