(Alexandria, MN) The Minnesota Blizzard Junior "A" Hockey team played only one game this past weekend, at the VFW Sports Center in Bismarck, ND. The Bobcats used some early scoring, to subdue the Blizzard, 3-1. It was Bismarck's first home win over the Blizzard, in 2004-05. Minnesota had won the previous four contests that were held at the VFW Sports Center this season.
The only offense for the Blizzard came off the stick of Forward Sam Windsor. He netted his fourth goal of the year, off a rebound, at 16:22 of the second period, to cut the Bismarck lead to 2-1. The lone assist came from Scott Motz (Maplewood, MN).
The Bobcats clung to a 2-1 lead into the closing moments of the game, before completing the scoring with an empty-net goal. The loss dropped the Blizzard to 21-12-2 on the season, which leaves Minnesota three points behind the North American Hockey League's Western Division co-leaders, Billings and Fargo-Moorhead.
A busy weekend ahead for the Blizzard: Six points will be up from grabs this weekend, when the Blizzard tangles with the Fargo-Moorhead Jets. The teams will play two regularly scheduled games, Friday night at 7:00 in Alexandria, and Saturday evening, in Fargo. In between, Minnesota and Fargo-Moorhead will complete the game, which was suspended November 27th in Wahpeton, North Dakota. The suspended game will resume Saturday, January 22nd at 6:00 PM in the John Carlson Coliseum in Fargo. When the game resumes, the Blizzard will face a 2-0 deficit, with 13:33 remaining in the second period. Once the suspended game is completed, the teams will play a full 60-minute regulation game, which will begin at approximately 8:00. Saturday's action in Fargo (both the full game, and the completion of the suspended game) will be broadcast on the radio, at 107.1, KMGK-FM in West-Central Minnesota.
