
Miners win see-saw battle, 11-9

MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners (29-22) won a wild afternoon contest 11-9 over the Long Beach Armada (27-25) at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona.
The game came going back and forth until the Miners scored three runs in the eighth to seal their second straight win. The Armada scored three runs early in the first inning off Mesa starter Jason Navarro. The Miners came right back in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own with RBI singles by Marcus Knight and Caleb Maher. Long Beach scored two more runs in the third with a 2-run home run by Chris Miller. The home run knocked Navarro out of the game. The Miners once again answered in the bottom of the inning by scoring three runs to tie the game 5-5. RBI doubles by Michael Done, Frank Montiel, and an RBI triple by Digz Edwards helped tie the game.
The Armada scored two more runs in the fourth for a 7-5 lead, but Adam Bonner's two-run home run in the bottom of the inning tied the game once again. The Miners got their first lead in the fifth with a monster solo home run by Kevin Reinking. But, Long Beach bounced back with a two-run single by Jeff Larue to take a 9-8 lead.
Down 9-8 in the eighth, Mesa scored three runs to take an 11-8 lead. Bonner had another big hit, this time a two-run double, and Marcus Jensen had an RBI single. Kevin Cassidy (3-3) pitched the final two innings in relief for the victory.
The Miners will close out their three-game homestand tomorrow against the Armada at 6:35pm at HoHoKam Park.

The Miners will play a 90-game schedule which features 54 home games played at HoHoKam Park in Mesa. The Golden Baseball League season begins in May and concludes with the playoffs in September. Each team will have a 24-man roster. Players will be recruited from throughout the United States, including former major leaguers working their way back up through the minors, some of college baseball's finest players who missed being drafted, and cuts from Major League Baseball's spring training roster trimming.
