
Miners swept by Outlaws

MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners (27-22) were swept by the Chico Outlaws (23-27) by losing the series finale 9-3 at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona. The loss was the Miners third in a row, and they have now lost nine of their last eleven games.
Mesa starter Mike Nunes (0-1) pitched well in his first start of the season, going into the fifth inning with a no-hitter. After giving up his first hit of the game, reliever Dan Burkhart came in to give up five runs in an inning. Mesa found them selves trailing 9-0 when the Outlaws scored seven runs in the seventh inning. Steve Booker had a 2-run single and Mike Mallory hit a 3-run home run, his third consecutive game with a home run against Mesa.
Chico starter Jordy Alexander (1-1) got the win by giving up no runs on three hits in seven innings of work. Alexander also had two RBI. Third baseman Michael Done pitched a scoreless ninth inning, giving up three hits.
The Miners were close to being shut out for the first time this season, but scored three times in the bottom of the ninth off reliever Shane Waroff. Marcus Knight added to his RBI total with amn RBi fielder's choice, and Done hit a 2-run double.
The Miners will open a three-game series against the Long Beach Armada starting tomorrow night at 6:35pm at HoHoKam Park.

Each team will have a 24-man roster. Players will be recruited from throughout the United States, including former major leaguers working their way back up through the minors, some of college baseball's finest players who missed being drafted, and cuts from Major League Baseball's spring training roster trimming.
