Miners get back to winning ways

MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners (28-22) got a great pitching performance from starter Grant Williams to beat the Long Beach Armada 4-1 at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona.

Williams, now 7-3 on the season, pitched his second complete game of the year. He gave one run on eight hits, while striking out eleven and walking two. The lone run by Long Beach was a solo home run to the second batter of the game-Adonis Harrison.

Mesa answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first when Digz Edwards scored a double play. The score stayed tied 1-1 until Matt Connolly hit a 2-run single in the sixth to give the Miners a 3-1 lead. Caleb Maher added an insurance run with a RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh.

The Miners will continue their three-game homestand tomorrow against the Armada with a 12:00pm start time at HoHoKam Park.

The Miners will play a 90-game schedule which features 54 home games played at HoHoKam Park in Mesa. The Golden Baseball League season begins in May and concludes with the playoffs in September. Each team will have a 24-man roster. Players will be recruited from throughout the United States, including former major leaguers working their way back up through the minors, some of college baseball's finest players who missed being drafted, and cuts from Major League Baseball's spring training roster trimming.
