Mesa Miners News Release

MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners (17-9) won their fourth straight series and sixth straight game as they swept the three-game series against the Long Beach Armada (11-16) in California.

Mesa is now 9-1 in their last ten games and a perfect 3-0 so far on their six game road trip. Starting pitcher Chris Marini (3-0) picked up his third win of the season by giving up just one run on four hits in eight innings. Marini also strukout five Armada batters while walking one. The Miners are 6-0 when Marini is the starting pitcher.

The Miners got on the board early with two runs in the first inning with an RBI double by Caleb Maher and an RBI single by Marcus Jensen. Jensen finished the game with three hits in four at-bats. The Armada answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first with an RBI groundout by Jeff LaRue which would eventually be the only run scored by Long Beach.

Marcus Knight, the Golden Baseball League leader in RBI, added some insurance runs with an RBI sacrifice bunt in the sixth inning and an RBI single in the eighth. Knight now leads the league with 27 RBI. Newly signed pitcher Dan Burkhardt pitched a scoreless ninth to finish the game.

The Miners will continue their hot streak as they travel to Yuma for a three-game series against the Scorpions before coming home on July 27 to battle the Japan Samurai Bears. You can follow the Miners in Yuma by listening to Darrell Linderman and John Potter on www.sportsjuice.com.
