MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners (25-14) two-game winning streak came to an end as they lost 14-3 to the Yuma Scorpions (21-17) at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona.
Yuma got on the board with a run in the first inning and then went on to score ten runs in the third inning. The ten-run inning was the most the Miners have given up this season. Mesa starter Tim Kalita (2-3) only lasted 2.2 innings giving up 10 runs (3 earned) on seven hits. Hitting stars for the Scorpions included Matt Brunson who went 1-for-4 with 3 RBI, Alexis Hernandez who went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI, and Javier Lopez who went 3-for-3. Mesa catcher Kevin Reinking went 3-for-4 and Julius Thames went a perfect 3-for-3.
Yuma starter Jorge Perez (6-0) pitched six strong innings giving up seven hits and three runs. Mesa and Yuma used all available position players in the game. The Scorpions finished the game with 14 runs on 16 hits.
The Miners will play the last game of the four game series against the Scorpions tomorrow at 6:35 pm at HoHoKam Park. The scheduled starters are Grant Williams (6-1) for Mesa and Dustin Kupper (2-2) for Yuma.
