
Miners shake slow start, down Daredevils

PIKEVILLE, KY. - It was a tale of two halves Wednesday night when the East Kentucky Miners hosted the Butte Daredevils in an early-regular season matchup between two Continental Basketball Association (CBA) teams. After facing a 12-point halftime deficit, East Kentucky rallied for a hard-fought 104-90 win.
Butte toted a 58-46 lead into halftime.
Josh Pace, who leads the CBA in scoring, led East Kentucky with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Pace led all players in scoring and rebounding. The former Syracuse standout also had seven steals and five assists.
Boo Jackson exited the game with 24 points and eight rebounds for the Miners. Bryant Northern added 18 points as three East Kentucky players reached double figures in the scoring column.
East Kentucky guards Mike Crain and Jason McLeish narrowly missed reaching double figures scoring, finishing with nine points apiece.
East Kentucky rolled in the second half, outscoring visiting Butte 58-32.
The Miners finished particularly strong, taking the final quarter 30-18.
"In the second half we came out and did what we needed to do," said East KEntucky Coach Kevin Keathley. "We were able to dictate what we did in the second half and get into our type of game, which is getting up and down the floor and putting points on the scoreboard. I'm pleased with the way our guys finished strong."
East Kentucky, known for getting up and down the floor as part of a fast-paced style of play, forced Butte into committing 30 turnovers. The Miners outrebounded Butte 40-35.
Lionel Davis led Butte with 18 points. Aaron Cook added 17 for Butte, which dropped to 2-5 following the loss.
The Daredevils connected on 8-of-15 three-point field goal attempts. East Kentucky converted on 31-of-39 free throw attempts.
The Miners claimed each of the first two quarters in commanding fashion.
East Kentucky won the quarter points battle 5-2.
The Miners will host Butte in the second and final game of a two-game series between the two CBA teams Thursday night at 7:05.
