Southern Illinois Miners News Release

MARION, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners logo has been chosen to compete in a 64 team tournament to determine the best logo in minor league baseball. The competition will be held on Darren Rovell's Sports Biz blog on the CNBC website.

The competition starts on Monday, March 10 and will run through Monday, March 31. The tournament will be set up in the same format as the NCAA basketball tournament with single elimination matchups in four brackets featuring teams seeded one through 16. Winners will be determined by fan voting on Rovell's blog so Miners fans are encouraged to vote early and often. Voting will open when the brackets are posted Monday morning on the Sports Biz site, http://www.cnbc.com/id/23501709.

"Our fans have been great since day one in Southern Illinois," Miners General Manager Tim Arseneau said. "This is another chance for our supporters to show why we always say we have such great fans."

Rovell came up with the idea for the tournament after he chose his favorite few minor league baseball logos on his blog last March. He received so much feedback that he decided to choose a more democratic way to chose the best logo this season.

"I wanted to do something fun that would get some attention," Rovell said. "And minor league baseball teams are the most creative with logos."

After extensive research, he ranked the teams one through 64 and attributed seeding accordingly. The Miners logo is a three seed, and the first round match ups will be announced Monday. Between affiliated and independent minor league baseball teams, over 200 teams were considered for the tournament.

The Miners home opener is scheduled for Saturday, May 24 at 7:05 p.m. For the latest Miners news and updates, visit www.southernillinoisminers.com.
