
Miners fall to Japan 3-2

MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners (30-23) opened their four-game series against the Japan Samurai Bears (20-32) with a 3-2 loss at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona. The loss ended the Miners three-game winning streak.
Charles Sciutti, who joined the Samurai Bears team today, led off the game with a home run. He also added a double and a single, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. The Miners only RBI of the game was an RBI single by Cleatus Davidson.
The starters for both teams pitched six innings. Satoshi Morita (2-7) picked up the win by giving up one run (no earned) on four hits. He also walked five and struck out five. Mesa starter Jon Uhl (4-2) received the loss after giving up three runs on nine hits.
The second game of the series continues tomorrow at 6:35pm at HoHoKam Park. It is 80's night at the stadium at there will be $1 hot dogs all night.

The Miners will play a 90-game schedule which features 54 home games played at HoHoKam Park in Mesa. The Golden Baseball League season begins in May and concludes with the playoffs in September. Each team will have a 24-man roster. Players will be recruited from throughout the United States, including former major leaguers working their way back up through the minors, some of college baseball's finest players who missed being drafted, and cuts from Major League Baseball's spring training roster trimming.
