Miners and Freedom to Play for Championship

Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners will play the Florence Freedom for the Frontier League Championship. The Southern Illinois Miners defeated the Traverse City Beach Bums in the divisional round, wrapping up a series sweep this past Saturday night. The Florence Freedom defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 7-0 on Monday night in Game Five to take the series three games to two.
The Miners and Freedom met six times in the regular season with the series splitting at 3-3. The Miners and Freedom last met at the Home of the Florence Freedom on August 17th -19th with the Freedom taking two out of three games. The Miners and Freedom both head to the championship series for the first time in franchise history.
Game One will get underway on Wednesday night, September 12th in Florence, Kentucky at the Home of the Florence Freedom. First pitch will get underway at 5:35 pm CST. Mike Ventola will have the call on US 97.7 and the Miners Radio Network beginning at 5:15 pm CST with the Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show. Game Two is scheduled for a 5:35 pm CST start at the Home of the Florence Freedom on Thursday September 13th. Game Three will be at Rent One Park on Saturday night September 15th, a 7:05 pm CST first pitch. If necessary, Game Four will be on Sunday September 16th at Rent One Park, a scheduled 5:05 pm CST first pitch. If necessary, Game Five will be at the Home of the Florence Freedom on Tuesday September 18th, a scheduled 5:35 pm CST first pitch.
The Southern Illinois Miners have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year three times since its inception. It has also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007.
