Milwaukee Wave United News Release

Milwaukee, WI – It may have been a new field, but the Milwaukee Wave United wasted no time getting comfortable, scoring four goals in the first half and cruising home to their second win in as many days as they defeated the Portland Timbers 4-0 at Uihlein Soccer Park.

Due to unplayable conditions (standing water) on the main stadium field, the game was switched to an adjacent field at the Uihlein Complex. Wave United took full advantage of the new surroundings to administer PortlandÂ’s first setback in three visits to Milwaukee since the Timbers entered the A-League in 2001.

The first goal came early when Todd Dusosky scored in the sixth minute. Dusosky took a re-start pass from Dino Delevski and pushed the ball past Timbers goalkeeper Curtis Spiteri. It was DusoskyÂ’s third goal of the season on DelevskiÂ’s second assist.

Next up it was Chad Dombrowski, the rookie from UW-Milwaukee, who struck the Todd Dusosky deflection off the free kick perfectly and was able to blast the ball to the top left corner for the score. In the thirty third minute Delevski stepped into the middle and took the pass from Matt Schmidt, putting the ball past Spiteri for the third goal on the day and giving the Wave United a comfortable lead in the first half.

But Delevski was not done; just three minutes later he took a pass from John Ball and connected on his second goal of the day, his fourth of the season. Fans may have thought they were experiencing dejavu, as the two goals from Delevski were mirror images, cross passes from the left side into the middle where Delevski was waiting.

The Timbers were able to hold Milwaukee scoreless in the second half but could not mount much of an attack against Milwaukee goalkeeper Jim Larkin and the Wave United defense. Larkin notched his third shutout of the season as he finished with three saves, the same as his counterpart Spiteri.

Milwaukee improved to 4-2-0 (12 pts.) to move into a third place tie with Central Division rival Cincinnati. Portland, which is tied for second in the Pacific Division, stayed at 12 points as it dropped to 4-7-0.

Wave United’s next home match will be Sunday, June 15, at 4:00 pm when it takes on the Rochester Raging Rhinos at Uihlein Soccer Park. It will be a “Father’s Day Special” with all fathers getting in free with at least one paid admission of a son or daughter.
