January 6, 2010 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Saint John Riptide News Release

The Manchester Millrats have signed power forwards 6'10 Jose Guitian and 6'6 Alexus Foyle.

Guitian, played college ball at nearby Lasell College in Boston from 2005-2009, where he first met Millrats co-owner Steve Yankopoulos. At Lasell as a senior, he averaged 18.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.4 blocks per game.

This past summer, Guitian played for the Grises de Humacao, a rival of the Puerto Rico Capitanies de Arecibo that are playing in the PBL this season. While there he was a teammate of former Millrat, Ismael Caro, and posted averages of 7.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game as a rookie.

"Jose gives us more height and length and interior depth which we were needing," said Millrats Head Coach Heath Teixeira. "He competes and gets after it and shoots it very well also."

Alexus Foyle hails from the Island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean. His older cousin, Adonal Foyle, is currently playing for Orlando Magic as a mentor to NBA star Dwight Howard. Adonal first sponsored Alexus to come to the U.S. in 1999 where he enrolled in junior college at the College of the Desert.

After transferring to BYU-Hawaii, Alexus Foyle led the nation in scoring in 2003 with a blistering average of 26.7 points per game. Following his senior year, he was named All-Pacific West Conference 1st Team, NCAA D2 All-American, and Daktronics NCAA II All-America Second Team. He was also invited to workout for the Denver Nuggets.

In 2005 after a stint in France, Foyle jointed the Boston Frenzy (ABA), where he averaged 24.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1 block per game. Millrats General Manager Ian McCarthy, and Head Coach Heath Teixeira, both first met Alexus while working with the Boston Frenzy.

"We are happy to have Alexus with the Millrats because he is very athletic and very strong, and will help us greatly on defense and rebounding the ball," explained Millrats General Manager Ian McCarthy. "He is good natured and plays the game with a fierce passion and energy."

The Millrats fly to Arecibo, Puerto Rico to face the Puerto Rico Capitanes on Friday the 8th, and then to Oklahoma to face the Lawton Fort-Sill Cavalry on Sunday the 10th. Manchester returns home for a double header home stand on January 16th and 17th to face the Rochester RazorSharks and the Quebec Kebs.
